Alice Seeger has been weaving for more than 30 years. As a production weaver she created lustrous rayon chenille fabric for Haute Couture designer Martha Zimiles. In her Rhinebeck studio Alice has taught and presented Weaving and Fiber Arts workshops since 1986. She has traveled to South America to study weaving in Peru, and lived in a Hogan on the Navajo Reservation to learn the techniques of Navajo weavers. Elementary school students have learned about weaving from Mrs Seeger through her Hands On History programs focusing on how textiles were created by hand throughout history and in other cultures. For her work in schools she was awarded the Dutchess County Executive Arts award for Arts in Education in 2004. This year Alice has the honor of being selected as Artist-in-Residence at Fiber College on Penobscot Bay in Maine. In the summer Alice is the Director of Mill Street Loft’s Dutchess Arts Camp in Poughkeepsie. Alice is a board member of Dutchess County Arts Council and is a Master Gardener Volunteer for Cornell Cooperative Extension in Dutchess County.
